Volunteer Job Opportunites

REGISTRATION CLERK

Purpose:  This position is to register pantry clients coming for food and general assistance.

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Director of Services

Requirements:  Some basic knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft office.

Time Commitment: Three to four hours per month or more if desired

Responsibilities:  The Pantry Registration Clerk will interview clients that come in for food and/or financial assistance and enter the personal information for new clients into the database. Active client data will be checked and updated as needed.  Listen to clients as they talk about what is going on in their lives and be prepared to offer information that could help them find answers to their situations.

REGISTRATION ASSISTANT

Purpose:  This position is to register pantry clients coming for food and general assistance.

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Director of Services

Requirements:  Some basic knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft Office would be helpful.

Time commitment: Three to four hours per month or more if desired.

Responsibilities:  Assist the Pantry Registration Clerk as clients are being registered.  Log clients on paper and give receipts that need to be accounted for at the end of the day.  Will log in and journal what the totals are for the pantry day and match with the report done for that day.

MAILING COORDINATOR

Purpose: Coordinate bi-annual newsletter mailing, send out all cards, donation thank you letters and other mailings.

Reports to: This position will be supervised by the Director of Services

Requirements: Ability to follow direction, availability on an as-needed basis to fulfill all mailings.

Time Commitment: Three to six hours per month.

Responsibilities: The mailing coordinator will send out birthday cards on a monthly basis to all volunteers and all other correspondence to volunteers as necessary (get well, sympathy cards). In addition, this person will help with monthly donation thank you letters and other mass mailings by stuffing, folding, sealing and putting them in the mail.

MAILING ASSISTANTS

Purpose: Help the Mailing Coordinator and Director of Ministry in all mailings, as needed.

Reports to: This position will be supervised by the Director of Services

Requirements: Ability to follow direction, availability on an as-needed basis to help complete all mailings.

Time Commitment: Three to four hours per month

Responsibilities: Assist with all mailings of letter, cards, newsletter and donation thank you's.

VOLUNTEER OFFICE ASSISTANT

Purpose: Assist Pantry Manager and Director of Ministry in completing light office work and answering phones.

Reports to: This position will be supervised by the Food Pantry Manager

Requirements: Ability to pleasantly answer phones, follow directions, light office work.

Time Commitment: Three to four hours every other week or more as desired.

Responsibilities: Answer incoming phone calls, filtering them and enabling the Pantry Manager and Director to complete other tasks. Answer basic client questions on the phone, schedule assistance appointments, taking messages when necessary. Complete other light office work, such as filing and data entry.

PANTRY SUPERVISOR

Purpose:  Coordinate and delegate duties in the food pantry

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Manager

Requirements:  Some basic supervision and leadership skills, ability to be flexible and maintain a pleasant attitude

Time commitment: 15 - 18 hours per week

Responsibilities: Supervise volunteers that volunteer in the pantry area, coordinate the incoming and outgoing food, counting, weighing and recording the incoming food, keeping documentation of pantry inventory. Set up for pantry day. Ensure that pantry, refrigerators and freezers are kept clean and tidy.

PANTRY SUPERVISOR ASSISTANT

Purpose:  Assistant to Pantry Supervisor

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Manager

Requirements:  Some basic supervision and leadership skills, ability to be flexible and maintain a pleasant attitude.

Time Commitment: 12 - 15 hours per week

Responsibilities: Coordinate volunteers where needed in pantry, maintain that the shelves are stocked, makes sure that the older food is used before new, sorts food by expiration dates, is backup for pantry supervisor, set up for pantry day.

PANTRY CLIENT ASSISTANT

Purpose:  Assist clients with their shopping experience

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements:  Communication skills, ability to work well with people of all backgrounds; ability to be impartial and patient.

Time Commitment: Three to four hours per week or more if desired

Responsibilities: Assist clients with their shopping experience, take clients and let them know what is to be taken from the pantry shelves.

PANTRY STOCKER / SORTER

Purpose:  Sort food and stock shelves as food comes into the pantry

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements:  Ability to follow direction and lift light weight, 10 - 20 pounds

Time Commitment: Anywhere from 3 - 12 hours per week or more if desired

Responsibilities: Restocking shelves with food that needs to be set out and pull out produce to set up for pantry day.

CLEAN-UP CREW MEMBER -- (WEEKLY)

Purpose:  Breakdown cardboard boxes that are not needed in pantry

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements:  Ability to follow directions and strength to breakdown boxes

Time Commitment: Two to three hours per week

Responsibilities: Break down cardboard and take cardboard to recycling bin as needed. Keep pantry stairs and downstairs area swept and tidy.

CLEAN-UP CREW MEMBER -- (MONTHLY)

Purpose: Keep pantry tidy and clean

Reports to: This position will report to the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements: Ability to follow directions, ability to bend and carry mop bucket

Time Commitment: Three to four hours per month

Responsibilities: Sweep and mop pantry steps and pantry on a monthly basis, take out garbage, and generally tidy up the pantry as directed.

FREEZER CREW MEMBER

Purpose: Keep freezers and refrigerators clean

Reports to: This position will report to the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements: Ability to bend and clean and carry mop bucket

Time Commitment: Three to four hours, once a quarter (every three months)

Responsibilities: Clean freezers and refrigerators on a regular schedule so that all appliances are cleaned at least two times per year. Work with Pantry Supervisor to coordinate this.

MEAT BAGGER / TRANSIENT / EMERGENCY BAGGER

Purpose: Bag meats for pantry days, make up homeless and emergency bags for giving away.

Reports to: This position will report to the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements: Ability to follow instructions and work without direct supervision

Time Commitment: Two to three hours per week

Responsibilities: Put together bags of meat each week to be given away during pantry times. Put together emergency bags and food bags for the homeless based on a pre-made list of items.

MEAT / PASTRY / DELI DISTRIBUTOR

Purpose:  Hand out meat, pastry, and deli products to clients shopping at the pantry

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements:  Ability to follow directions and able to communicate with people, cheerful demeanor

Time Commitment: Three to four hours per week or more as desired

Responsibilities: During pantry hours will set out and distribute meat/pastries/deli to clients.

FOOD PICK-UP DRIVER

Purpose:  Drive to area stores to pick up food that is donated to pantry

Reports to:  This position will be supervised by the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements:  Ability to drive our van for food pickup and be able to carry 25 to 50 lbs, ability to walk up and down stairs

Time Commitment: Four  hours per week or more as desired

Responsibilities:  Drive to area stores and pick up food donated to the pantry, load vehicle and bring groceries and food to pantry, unload vehicle and carry groceries and food down stairs and put in designated spots.

FOOD PICK-UP ASSISTANT

Purpose: Assist with the daily pick up of food that is donated to the pantry

Reports to: This position will be supervised by the Pantry Supervisor

Requirements: Ability to carry 25-50 lbs, ability to walk up and down stairs

Time Commitment: Four hours per week or more as desired

Responsibilities: Help load vehicle at pick up, unload and bring groceries into the pantry, carrying them downstairs. Weigh food and place in designated spots.
