The S.O.S. Soup Kitchen opened its doors at the 1st location of St. John EUCC on June 7, 2012. It is open every Thursday from 5-6:30 pm in Faith Hall. We serve on average 100 patrons a week. Our 2nd location opened its doors at First United Presbyterian Church on January 3, 2017. It is open every Tuesday from 5-6:30 pm in the Westminster Hall. We serve an average 68 patrons a week. Our 3rd location opened its doors at First United Methodist Church on January 30, 2018 and retired from the program at the end of 2024.
Ten local churches and several community organizations came together to form the Soup Kitchen Coalition. This group rotates weekly to provide volunteers and food to serve dinner. The food pantry provides the fresh produce, desserts and vegetables. The Soup Kitchen receives donations from the Panera Bread Dough Nation and Glazy Squares donuts. We also have a representative from the University of Illinois Extension that brings fresh fruit.
S.O.S. Soup Kitchen is a strictly feeding ministry, open to anyone in need of a warm meal and friendship. There are no qualifying factors or strings attached. If you or your group is interested in volunteering, contact Dana Callahan at 344-2526. We are also on Facebook at SOS Spirit of Sharing!
Please come and join us on Tuesday and Thursday!
