The S.O.S. Soup Kitchen

The SOS Soup Kitchen opened its doors at St. John EUCC on June 7, 2012 with 15 patrons and 12 volunteers.  It is open every Thursday from 5-6:30 pm in Faith Hall.  It has grown tremendously since that first day.

We now serve on average 100 patrons a week! Ten local churches and several community organizations came together to form the Soup Kitchen Coalition.  This group rotates weekly to provide volunteers and food to serve dinner.  The food pantry provides the fresh produce, desserts and vegetables.  The Soup Kitchen receives donations from the Panera Bread Dough Nation and Glazy Squares donuts.  We also have a representative from the University of Illinois Extension that brings fresh fruit.

S.O.S. Soup Kitchen is a strictly feeding ministry, open to anyone in need of a warm meal and friendship.  There are no qualifying factors or strings attached.  If you or your group is interested in volunteering, contact Dana Callahan at 344-2526.  We are also on Facebook at SOS Spirit of Sharing!  Please come and join us on Thursday!
